Rice the hash browns
Place the hash browns in a food processor fitted with the blade attachment. Scraping the processor bowl as necessary, pulse the processor until the potato pieces resemble rice grains, 5-10 times. Do not over-process.

Drain the riced potatoes
Transfer the riced potatoes to a fine-mesh strainer. If necessary, press the potatoes firmly with a spatula to squeeze out as much liquid as possible but do not mash the potatoes. Discard any liquid.

Press and freeze the tot mixture
Line a square baking pan with foil, ensuring there is a bit of overhang on all sides to help remove it later. Press the cooled tot mixture firmly in the pan, using a spatula to pack the mixture into each corner. Press the top down and smooth it with a spatula. Freeze the tot mixture for at least 30 minutes, up to 45 minutes.

Shape and freeze the tots
Coat a June Air Basket lightly with nonstick cooking spray and set over a June Pan to catch any crumbs. If desired, roll the tots in your hands to form cylinders in the traditional tot shape. Place the tots in a single layer in the June Air Basket with space between each tot for air to circulate. Freeze the tots in the June Air Basket at least 10 minutes, up to 1 hour.
